ENBIS case studies series
ENBIS started this series of case studies to get more descriptions, programming and data from real world projects from business and industry published. The general idea is not just to present work completed, but give members of ENBIS the chance to use the data and code to do their own analysis and to use the data and problems for more customer oriented training.
The papers of the case studies are public while data and code are for ENBIS members only.
If you want to submit a case study please go to our upload page, there you will find further instructions.

Studying Drinking Speeds |
The behaviour of subjects consuming a drink is monitored by attaching a data logger to their glass which records the movement as a set of time series data. This is a novel way of collecting data which is unobtrusive and aims to have minimal influence over the behaviour of the subjects. Subjects were asked to consume both a neutral drink, water, and a drink of their choice in a natural way. The aim of the analysis of this data, is to determine whether the subjects respond differently to their preferred drink. The Viterbi algorithm was used to analyse each drinking regime as a whole and determine the number and length of sips, whilst change point methods were used to determine the distribution of the data within each sip. The methods employed worked effectively and identified the features of interest accurately. However, no significant differences were found between the preferred drink and the neutral drink, due to the high within subject variability. |
