Abstract
Like any other business seeking to sell their services, statistical consultants need to know their market place in order to be successful. Two years ago, I asked myself 3 simple questions and my answers allowed me to identify 5 categories of clients. I then used these categories to work out where I could find these clients and more importantly how these clients could find me. I have presented this client identification process to numerous non-statisticians who have found it beneficial to their businesses so I see no reason why I should deny statisticians the same benefits!
